TDS – TAN Registration

TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number) is a 10 digit alphanumeric number required to be obtained by all persons who are responsible for deducting (TDS) or collecting (TCS) tax at source.

TAN is issued by the Income Tax department on submission of application form at TIN-facilitation center.

An application in form No. 49B is to be filed along with following documents:-

  1. Proof of Identity
  2. Proof of address

Upon obtaining TAN,  the TAN holder will be required to mandatorily file quarterly returns, failing which may liable to pay fee & penalty under various provisions of the Income Tax Act.

Quotation of TAN is mandatory on:-

  1. TDS/TCS Returns
  2. TDS/TCS Challans
  3. TDS/TCS Certificates
